Thursday 16th May
Still unable to do very much photography (see last post) but I was determined to get out on such a beautiful sunny afternoon. No chance of being able to sit in the car so it was a quick hobble the short distance to Penlee Park.
With the sun out and some lovely big trees and exotic plants the infrared camera worked beautifully.
Then it was a slow limp home to lie on the floor for an hour!

Monday 13th May
My back and sciatica are limiting what I can do at the moment so this evening it was a short walk to Morrab Gardens in Penzance. It had rained all morning but by late afternoon the sun was making an appearance through gaps in the clouds. I took the infrared camera as the exotic plants in the gardens always show up well.
A bit of a struggle getting back home, my wife had to carry my camera-poor old chap!

Sunday 12th May
At official sunrise (5.40am) there was no sign of the sun as a thick bank of fog covered the eastern horizon. Half an hour later a pale red hazy sun peeped through the fog and then as the sun rose to the top of the fog bank the sunlight changed to gold. There's less than an hour between the first and last image.

Saturday 11th May
At 5.30am this morning it was one of those unbelievable pre dawn skies. They only last a few minutes and then fade to something nearer normality. I much prefer sunrise to sunset as I love the fresh day feeling and tranquility on a morning like today. Very few people about and always something to grab my interest as the day begins.

Friday 10th May
No cliff climbing for me today-bad back stopped play. I did manage an early morning walk along the promenade to the Bathing Pool (Jubilee Pool). Opened in 1935 and holding 5 million litres of water, it's refreshed and refilled at high tide and old photos show it absolutely packed.

Thursday Evening
A third visit to Bosigran but this time across the fields to the west and ending up at the top of Commando Ridge. The ridge is so named as it was used for training commandos preparing for D-Day and in fact the marines still train on the cliffs here and at Sennen.

Wednesday 8th April
A return trip to Bosigran but further west towards Commando Ridge. A beautiful still evening with lots of climbers on the sheer cliffs but I purposely left my long lens at home as I know I'll get distracted by them.
The cliff edge here is a real sun trap and there are flowers everywhere including a lot of primroses still in full bloom.
As an aside, on the way up to Bosigran we were lucky to see about a dozen Red Kites in a field where silage had just been cut. Several of them were soaring above us.

Tuesday Sunset
An evening drive up to the high cliffs at Bosigran to see if the pink thrift was in full bloom. I did find some but not a huge amount yet. It was worth the drive and walk as the setting sun was casting some lovely golden light. While I don't normally chase sunsets it would have been a shame to ignore it completely.

Tuesday 7th May
It was supposed to be wall to wall sunshine today but at sunrise a rapidly shifting bank of cloud partly spoilt the spectacle. Out on the pier I did manage a first for me capturing an image of an Austrian photographer as the sun rose!
Behind the pier one of the local fishing boats was setting his lobster pots right up along the wall.
The brisk northerly wind was really chilly out on the end of the pier and I even had to nip home for my coat.
Hopefully the clouds will break and the rest of the day will be warmer.

Monday 6th May
The afternoon was warm and sunny and felt perfect to get the infrared camera out. We drove a few miles up to the village of Newmill. We parked and wandered up the lane to the very small Trythall School. Nearby is the former mission church of All Saints which opened in 1885 to service the mining community, it closed it's doors in 1957. It would make a superb house, not sure what it's future is.
Behind the school is an open moorland area with many small hawthorn trees blasted into leaning shapes by the wind and as in many local areas wild ponies are now used to keep the vegetation down. As I was making images of the ponies a fox scampered across in front of me but I was a bit slow to react and missed him.

Monday 6th May
I was up and out well before sunrise and at that time it was cloudy and raining lightly. As i walked along the seafront the Isles of Scilly ferry was just leaving the harbour. It will make two trips today to bring back the many hundreds of gig rowers who have been taking part in the wWorld Championships over the last few days. It will take several weeks to get all the gigs back to the mainland.
The images are all in the order they were taken as the conditions and light changed. The first image is at 5.45am and the last at 8.15am.
While I was out I met an Austrian photographer who is visiting Penzance with her mum. They have connections with the town through ancestors who lived here. They are off to Lands End later today and I also recommended a trip to Botallack and the sea level mine workings.

Sunday 5th May
How changeable our weather is at the moment. Yesterday I posted an image before sunrise with clear skies and still air. Today at sunrise we had heavy grey skies and rain. By 8am the clouds began to break up and we had some patchy sunshine. This morning's image is a similar composition to yesterday but now the tide is lower and we have a lovely reflection in the pool below.
I've added a second image from just a few metres further on when a shaft of sunshine suddenly caught the flags in front of me.

An early morning photo walk along Penzance Promenade to the Jubilee Pool and then back to Pickle for coffee. All this in hazy, golden, warm sunshine.

Thursday 2nd May
On April 22nd I walked over to the Old Quay at Newlyn to capture some lovely sunrise images and this morning I was out just after 5am with a similar plan.
However conditions turned out to be completely different and so instead of vivid colours we're back to black and white.

Wednesday May 1st
A walk through a small woodland full of small twisted moss covered trees. Just momentary glances of small birds flitting in and out of site as their sanctuary is invaded by humans. Dappled sunlight hitting the woodland floor which is covered in ferns and bluebells.
