Peter Maddern Photos
West Cornwall, England
I was born in Penzance, Cornwall in 1952 and apart from moving away for education have lived nowhere else. For over thirty years I was a local primary school teacher, with my spare time hobby being sea angling. I loved climbing down cliffs to fish inaccessible places that few others went to and must admit risking it a bit sometimes!
When I was lucky enough to pack up teaching in my fifties I took up serious cycling and cycled Land's End to John O'Groats several times by different meandering routes (with my wife on one occasion) and then cycled the whole coast of England, Scotland and Wales-a journey of nearly 5,000 miles. Loved every minute, even the painful bits.We also raised quite a lot for local charities.

Unfortunately my cycling obsession came to a halt suddenly when the vertebrae in my neck decided enough was enough and so it was back to fishing and then to my new hobby photography.
I had always taken a camera fishing with me as you never know what you might see and of course you might catch a big fish. Suddenly though I had an urge to engage my brain and began to immerse myself in the mysteries of "the exposure triangle."
I bought a Canon bridge camera and then a Lumix bridge camera but after many youtube videos settled on the Lumix micro four thirds system cameras. Today I almost exclusively use Fujifilm and seem to have collected a few of their older first generation mirrorless cameras. At the time of writing I have an X-E1, X-T10, X-T2 and X-T3. The first two in that list are small and light and you can pick up really quite cheaply on the secondhand market. I love them for photowalks and especially for black and white.
I clamber down the cliffs and walk the coastal footpath to take images perhaps a little different from the norm. When I'm fishing I take a camera with me to take some photos if a composition jumps out.
I'm no expert (getting better I hope) but have created this site just to have somewhere to share some of my images and locations and hopefully help one or two people looking for ideas. I will keep adding locations as this will give me a focus for my own photography.

What I am hoping to do is keep a diary of my trips and a growing list of places worth a visit with at least some less well known locations.
If you need some information about the locations here-perhaps you are coming down on holiday-feel free to email me at [email protected]
