I wonder if it's an age thing?
All the photos of me as a young child are black and white and I can remember how mind boggling the first colour televisions were. I love to see other people's black and white images and I seem to be spending more and more time converting some of my own photos to monochrome.
I find editing images in Nik Silver Efex Pro quite mesmerising, trying different film simulations, adding grain and old photo effects. Really must develop a repeatable style and keep it simple in the future.
Watching photographers on YouTube who specialise in film photography and do a lot of black and white, can be really interesting. I especially like Tom Whelan from West Cornwall and Steve O'Nions from up north.
If I had the space and time on my side I would be interested in learning about film photography and darkroom techniques myself but I think I've got enough to learn as it is.
Will have to develop in other ways!
Update: Since writing the above I have changed camera systems to Fujifilm and now sometimes use their film simulations but more often shoot raw and then use DXO Photolab and The Nik Collection.
