Praa Sands Beach lies halfway between Penzance and Helston. A beach about a kilometre long and always changing as the sand comes and goes and the soft cliffs erode. At the moment in the centre of the beach is a tree, perfectly upright, that has come down from someones receding garden. At the eastern end is a wartime pillbox sitting down on the beach that was once well above and back from the sea. On one visit there may be a steep beach and on your next visit the beach will be totally flat with the sea against the cliff at high tide.
At the eastern end of the beach large colourful, patterned boulders lead towards Rinsey head with a large house perched on the cliff top. This is a great place for some long exposures as the sea and foam come in and swirl around the rocks.
When the swell is high you can get some fantastic images of waves crashing against the cliffs and rushing up and back from the sand and rocks. The main car parking is at the western end of the beach but there is a limited amount at the eastern (Hendra) end.

A mile to the east of Praa Sands is Rinsey. You can walk along the coast path past the house on the headland if you want the exercise but there is a good car park if you want to spend the day here. At low tide there is a beach which is great for photography but is a little bit difficult to access as you have to scramble the last few yards down some rocks. From the car park you get your first site of Wheal Prosper which stands proud above the beach. Out of site but well worth a visit is Trewarvas Mine that clings to the cliff face around the headland to the east.
